This week for CDC was podcast preparation week, My group consisted of David Gilhooley, Tiernan Dowd and Darragh Fleming. The decade we were given was the 1970s. During the 70s a lot of interesting stuff happened. The rise of the disco scene, the creation of CB radios which was the very first popular form of telecommunication and the historical rise of Apple Inc (The 1970s, 2020).
Our podcast is centred around the birth of apple and what they were doing at the time. We aim to explore the story of how a small company started by a man who was not a designer grew to be one of the most influential companies in the technology world and how his legacy lives on today after his death. After organising the structure of the script, it was time for me to fill out my sections where I was going to talk in the blog. I'm pretty much an unchanged character just somehow a design student from UL get into a podcast with Jonathan Ives and some random apple worker. Let's take a listen to what I got so far!

Main Interview - Pt 2
Darragh - Ive
Darragh is going to talk about simplicity, Steve jobs effect on me, how he kept me in apple. Using some of Dieter rams designs and creative remodelling them.
Questions
well scan john, how's the form lad, can I call you Jon actually?
You've spent most of your career at this company, how long have you been working there altogether?
It seems you couldn't really decide whether you liked the company or not (laughs). What was the deciding factor that made you stay after that period of uncertainty?
It seems that Steve has played a huge role in your career and also by the looks of things, he played a big role in your life in general too. Would he have been your main influence throughout your career even with him not being a designer himself?
2-2:30 mins
Mikey - Design student
Mikey will talk about his experience as a design student and how he has been influenced by the work of Ive and how apples has had such a huge influence on design as a whole in the past few decades.
Questions
So Mikey you must be in awe of seeing Jonathan here today.
Yes David I am truly star struck, it’s not everyday you get to meet your idol. Thank you so much for having me on your show!!
What sort of role has he played in your life as a design student so far?
Mr Ive’s has played a huge role in my life and to be honest I didn't even realise the significance he has influenced on my life until 3 years ago. Growing up as a post millennial i was born into the tech era. We all had these portable gadgets from a young age and Apple has been leading the way in these devices since I can remember. The instantly recognisable shape of the clean apple devices has left me always longing for more of their products.
Back in 2013 I picked up the iPhone 5s when it was launched here in Ireland. It’s new finger touch ID was amazing. All my friends in school wanted to try it out or play a game, it had a huge impact on my life. Owning and admiring this phone along with the iphone 6,7 and 8 models that followed lead me to wonder who it is that is designing these stunning products.
After studying you Mr Ive’s and your design philosophies I became interested in product design. I eventually went on to enroll in Product design and technology in the University of Limerick 2 years ago. So thank you mr ives for your inspiration without you i wouldn't be here today!!
Very touching stuff mikey! You talked about mr ives design philosophies can you tell us how they have influenced your work?
Yea sure thing, so for me the biggest influence would be his minimal design work. His work on the iphone is simple and possibly basic but has inspired me to only design for what is needed. The quote “less is more” has never been so evident than with you Mr Ive’s.
In my opinion though there are some flaws while apple is minimal and all about simplicity are they really life cycle driven? It seems like their products are infamous for their rapid obsolescence, do you think they can do more to combat this and try to be more sustainable?
(Ive accepts compliment, brings up UX and UI design (Main aim to talk about simplicity))
(Tech guy back in)
Would you say Apple's simplistic and user centred approach was the same on the day back in 1976 as it is today?
(Ive discusses Jobs and his visions for the company and how this is still relevant in today's consumer world, it was all about the user not the money. Design student agrees that when he designs he designs to the users abilities not disabilities and makes life easy.)
