Week 12 has arrived upon so begins the wind-down, its that mad rush time to tie up all loose ends so I can go run off and enjoy summer in some foreign lands well not this year. This summer is going to be one of reflection and working on my skills, its also going to be a perfect time to start my portfolio. This was the topic of our final class in the CDC module, and the material that each student gathered is going to be a big help in all aspects of looking finding and getting a design job. Megan and I had to gather information about where to start if someone was looking for a design job outside of the country. So we compiled a list and pitched it to the class. These are a few of our examples from our presentation. Social media: Facebook groups, Linkedin contacts and job openings. Meetup.com, Glassdoor, Reddit, and Discord groups are also good, although Reddit and discord are more suited for freelance work. University contacts: UL student who have studied at the university, groups in the university department lecturers etc. Artstation: For UI and 3d modelling designers, lots of jobs in America. Good portfolio site too. Very high standards. Design conferences: network and meet new people abroad at a design conference. Design career fairs: meet employers at a design career fair, meet them face to face and chat about the industry and opportunities. So with my info for looking for an international job that won't be much use this summer. Luckily I have access to add my classmate's research where I will be researching, planning and making my cv and portfolio over the summer months. In class, we were asked to reevaluate our design philosophies my starting philosophy was "I want to design for all, things that make peoples life easier through simple and effective design. I also hope to challenge my skills and learn something new every day". I have since changed it up a little with the experience and outlook I gained from this module. " I want to design sustainable products, products that will be life cycle driven and products that have a circular system to be reused so we can continue to sustain life here on earth." I think this new philosophy reflects what I have learned and taken on in this module. I have really gotten down and noticed what true design to my heart is. I want to go forward and design with nature and our world always in my mind. But it's not always that easy, but I feel I must try. That brings an end this CDC module I would like to thanks Muireann for all her hard work and everyone who got involved in the class this semester it has been a pretty crazy one. Thanks for tuning in!
